Managed Face Authentication for Web Applications
Add browser-based facial authentication without building the recognition stack yourself. FACEIO provides the managed widget, liveness checks, application controls, and event hooks while your team owns consent, session policy, and user experience. For the browser-native delivery model, see face recognition as a web service.
Connect to the FACEIO Console to create applications, manage APIs, and configure webhooks for enrollment, authentication, and Facial ID events.
What a Managed Service Means for Your Team
Use FACEIO as the managed authentication layer while your application remains responsible for product policy and user sessions.
Building facial authentication in-house requires expertise in computer vision, liveness detection, browser camera behavior, recognition engine operations, data governance, and distributed systems. FACEIO delivers the browser authentication workflow as a managed service your app connects to through fio.js, the REST API, and webhooks. For implementation details, see the Face Authentication API guide.
Building In-House
- Evaluating and operating recognition engines
- Designing liveness and anti-spoofing flows
- Managing infrastructure uptime
- Implementing consent, retention, and deletion policy
Using FACEIO Service
- Integrate the fio.js SDK into existing web flows
- Use Facial IDs instead of raw face material in your app
- Platform updates and service operations handled by FACEIO
- App-level controls, webhooks, and deployment options
Reliability Built for Production
Authentication is mission-critical. FACEIO runs on distributed infrastructure designed for high availability and stable performance under heavy concurrent traffic. For operational guidance, review the Trust Center.

Fraud Reduction Without Adding Login Friction
Passwords and OTPs leave platforms exposed to credential stuffing, phishing, and account takeover. FACEIO addresses those threats at the authentication layer by removing shared credentials from the sign-in flow. See passwordless authentication patterns for migration strategy.
Less Reliance on Shared Credentials
Because each login requires a live facial match, attackers cannot rely only on a stolen password or forwarded OTP. Lower account-takeover risk comes from changing the authentication model itself, not from adding extra friction.
Photo Attack Resistance
Liveness checks help reject printed pictures and static digital images.
Replay Attack Checks
Capture checks help identify screen replays and prerecorded video playback.
Synthetic-Input Signals
Anti-spoofing controls evaluate indicators associated with synthetic-media presentation attempts. They do not guarantee detection of every attempt.
Privacy Controls and Data Governance Built In
For any organization adding facial authentication, governance starts with the application owner. FACEIO is designed to keep the integration surface clear: your application handles notices, consent, session policy, and user support, while FACEIO provides the managed authentication workflow and the selected facial recognition engine handles non-reversible biometrics hashes according to your application configuration.
-
Facial ID based application flow: Your application works with the returned Facial ID, payload, and authentication result. Raw capture media is not exposed to your application workflow.
-
Application-level data isolation: Each FACEIO application is scoped to its own App ID and Facial ID mapping. Recognition-engine indexes are isolated per application configuration.
-
Facial ID deletion: Application owners can expose deletion flows and call the DELETEFACIALID REST API endpoint to purge the Facial ID, associated payload, and related biometrics hash from their FACEIO application.
-
Recognition engine choice: Application owners choose the suitable deployment model, including managed cloud, EU data residency options with AWS Rekognition, or PixLab Insight on-premises for infrastructure-controlled deployments.
-
Application-controlled policy: Retention, deletion, fallback access, consent text, and regional setup are part of the application owner's implementation. Review Privacy Best Practices before rollout.

Core Use Cases
Consumer Login
Replace password-based login in customer-facing applications with selfie-based authentication. Users sign in quickly without passwords to remember or recover, improving return-visit UX and reducing password-reset support load. See Biometric Login for Web Apps for integration patterns.
Workforce & Admin Login
Secure internal dashboards, admin tools, and enterprise apps with a live facial authentication step. Shared-account abuse becomes harder because access depends on a live capture and successful match, not only a password or forwarded OTP.
Step-Up Authentication
For flows that need stronger assurance on specific actions instead of every login, trigger authenticate() at critical steps. High-value transactions, account setting changes, and admin operations can each require a fresh biometric check before execution. See Biometric Authentication for Web Apps for broader identity-layer design guidance.
Deployment Options
Managed Cloud
The standard integration runs on FACEIO's fully managed global cloud infrastructure. Beyond integrating the lightweight frontend SDK, there is nothing for your team to deploy or operate. This model is commonly adopted in SaaS and web app deployments.
- Fastest path to production
- Best for SaaS, consumer, and internal tools
- Managed service operations
Enterprise & On-Premise
Designed for organizations with strict data-residency requirements, regulatory constraints, or security policies that require recognition processing to stay fully inside their perimeter. Learn more on the on-premise deployment page and fintech/eKYC implementation guidance.
- Dedicated isolated environments
- Infrastructure-controlled data residency
- Custom SLA and infrastructure arrangements
